Carlotha Ray is built with a sophisticated take on sustainable luxury flat sandals and slippers.
Carlotha Ray is conceived to respect the people and the planet. All pieces are vegan and handcrafted in Italy in order to preserve the rich heritage of local communities.
Handmade with Heart. Presented in Style. Carlotha Ray was born from the dreams of Mariela Schwarz Montiel, a multi-disciplinary designer who is passionate about footwear and porcelain. Mariela wants to bring to life her imagination and real-life explorations with the influence from her grandmother Carlotha Despierre de Montiel, who was a devotee in helping local Paraguayan communities through education, as well as preservation of the Earth through reforestation initiatives.
These master artisans infuse each piece with their carefully cultivated expertise and passion, thereby elevating and perpetuating their traditional know-how.
Carlotha Ray’s slides are composed of a percentage between 60% to 80% of natural rubber coming from a plant-based latex extraction. Furthermore, rubber production scraps are mashed up and reused in a new compound for upcoming collections.
The collections are made from natural dyes obtained from medicinal herbs, flowers, plants such as olive, pomace, artichoke, pepper, pomegranate, almond husk, walnut husk, as well as soil and vegetable carbon, also from other organic materials like mint, eggshell, and rice. Part of Carlotha Ray’s uppers are made with GOTS certified, a locally Italian sourced linen and a new generation of satin fiber; a bio-satin ECOVERO called NewLife™ which is certified by Textile Exchange and OEKO-TEX®. Made in Italy and entirely created from the recycling of plastic bottles, its provenance is completely traceable and sustainable, as well as certified.
